GO FROM PANIC TO PREPARED

with our

Proactive Parents Group

Without making the same mistakes most new (and not so new) parents make

If you're a parent, you already know that you need a plan for your kids in case the worst happens…but you might not know what it should look like. Or even how to start the process!

So you find yourself…

Talking to friends

Exploring Legal Zoom

Googling horror stories

Trying to find out how much lawyers cost

Getting asked by your parents if you've gotten your act together yet

Saying "I'll do it soon."

Now imagine how you’d feel if you had a clear plan for what would happen to your kids in an emergency.

You could go on vacation, leaving the kids with grandma for the week, with no anxious pit in your stomach worrying over what might happen.

You could focus on the next milestone in your child’s life - first steps, first day of school, first soccer game - with peace of mind that your affairs are in order.

You won’t freak out the next time your doctor asks if you have a living will.

You could brag to your friends about crossing something important off your neverending to-do list.

Introducing the

Proactive Parents Group

I've taken everything I've learned from 10 years of estate planning and probate to create a workshop series that will take you from no plan to proudly prepared parents.

Our Proactive Parents Group isn’t so much a DIY toolkit that you could grab from any DIY legal site as it is an interactive workshop with a Tennessee licensed attorney who will walk you step by step through planning for you and your family’s future.
This month-long program will give you everything you need to get started: plans for the care of your children if you’re not around, paperwork you may need in the event of an emergency, and a no-judgment zone for questions with an experienced attorney.
The end result?
Less stress about the future and more time for you to focus on making memories with your family.

The Proactive Parents Group

is the first group of its kind that is designed to meet your family's needs

while honoring your time, energy, and resources.

We'll do this by:

Working around your busy schedule. We’ve designed this program to meet with you virtually during your lunch hour!

We’ll be meeting by Zoom four times. Replays will be available the next day if you can’t make it.

You’ll get to work with an experienced attorney to talk through your family’s needs and help you create a plan to set your family up for success now and in the future.

To make this accessible to new parents, you’ll get all of this for the cost of one completed document with an attorney.

You’ll finish the month with customized documents and education to take care of yourself and your family.

Here's how it all breaks down!

Session 1:  Guardianships

During this session, you will spend 60 minutes deciding how to choose who to care for your kids. At the end of the session (once you’ve decided), my team and I will prepare the documents for you and send them over.

Session 2:  Powers of Attorney

We’ll talk through what a power of attorney does and who you should consider to act in this role.  After this call, you will submit the names of your chosen attorney-in-fact and successor and we will prepare power of attorney documents to cover you in the event of an emergency.

Session 3: Without a Will, there’s a Way

Yes, you probably do need a will, but there are ways to provide for your family before you lay out cash on an attorney to prepare it for you.  We’ll talk about the probate process and how to get things to your family quickly when they need it most.

Session 4: Preparing for the Possibilities

During this final call, we will talk about how to bring up the topic of death and incapacity with young children, including resources.

When you join the program, you get four full hours with me plus completed documents to protect your family.

While we don’t accept payment plans as a practice, we want to make sure that money isn’t a barrier for this program.   Here are your options:

One time payment of $500/$900 if married, due at sign up.

Two payments of $250/$450 if married; first half due at sign-up, remainder due before class starts.

Please make sure you are able to pay when you sign up. No refunds will be given once we reserve your space.

We can't wait to meet you!

Who's behind the Proactive Parents Group?

It's me!!

I’m April Harris Jackson. Since I passed the bar ten years ago, my goal has been to help families protect each other and reduce stress that comes along with end-of-life needs. I founded Graceful Aging Legal Services, PLLC (affectionately known as GALS) in 2016. Though most of my work is done in middle Tennessee, I am licensed to practice before all Tennessee state courts.

I live in Hermitage, Tennessee with my husband Ian. Ian and I both agree that the real loves of our lives are Bella and Bear, who are foster fails from Metro Animal Care and Control. (Check out all their lovable pups!) On my desk, I always have a cozy candle burning or a small bouquet of flowers. Away from my desk, I enjoy celebrating the smallest progress in my garden, finding fun stamps at the post office, and eating cheese.

There's never been a better time to protect your kids (besides yesterday).

Even if you are raising the next child genius, your child needs someone who can love and care for them until they turn 18 (and beyond!). Now is the time for you to choose who that person will be if you are not around.  Thinking through this decision can be daunting, but it is one of the most important and proactive decisions you can make!

Use 2024 to get your things in order for the future care

and protection of you and your family.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What if I can’t afford the offer?

A:  We understand that everyone has a budget.  Normally our services range into the thousands of dollars, but we want to make this accessible for you.  At $500 for a single individual or $900 for a married couple, it’s a steal.

Q: What if I’m too busy to finish the offer?

A: We know you’re busy being a parent. That’s why this program is spaced out, with only one hour “in class” each week. Class time is from 12-1 pm.  We hope that by holding this class during your lunch hour, you're able to fit it into your busy life and schedule.

After class you will need to think through who you want to act for your family in case of an emergency, get their okay, and give us their contact information to complete your documents. The final step is to get your documents notarized.  We’ll give you all the information and check in along each step of the process.

Classes will be recorded and available for replay until the end of 2023, but we aren’t making any promises beyond that.

Q: How will I access the offer?

A: You will receive Zoom links for each class by email as well as the replays. We will also send you emails to follow up on classes and get your documents that are included in the program.

Q: Do I get 1:1 support?

A: You will have access to me directly during our four group Zoom calls. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have about the topics that we will be covering.  Although the classes are scheduled for 45 minutes, I will do my best to cover all of the material for that topic quickly (but thoroughly and accurately).  We cannot offer one-on-one support at this level of program, but would love to talk to you about becoming a private client if you are interested - now or in the future.
